NHS cancer screening programmes can help to diagnose cancer or risk of cancer earlier and improve the likelihood of successful treatment. There are three national cancer screening programmes in England.

• Cervical screening
• Breast screening
• Bowel screening

If you are eligible, please make every effort to have your screening test. Screening tests can detect a problem early, before you have any symptoms. Finding out about a problem early can mean that treatment is more effective.

Breast Screening

Anyone registered with a GP as female will be invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years between the ages of 50 and 71.

Cervical Screening

Cervical screening, which used to be called smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. It’s offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.

Bowel Screening

Bowel cancer screening is a test you do at home that checks for signs of bowel cancer. It’s offered to everyone aged 54 to 74.
