How Do I...
Make An Appointment?
You can book online by clicking here or by telephoning the surgery. Our busiest times are between
8:00 - 10:00. Call are answered a lot more quickly if you ring outside these times.
The Reception desk and telephones are open from 08:00 – 18:30 Monday to Friday. The surgery is closed
at
weekends and bank holidays.
All consultations are by appointment only. If you wish to consult with a specific doctor we will do our
best to accommodate your wish subject to the availability of appointments.
If you cannot keep your appointment please cancel it. This frees appointments for others and prevents waste of our time and NHS money. We see over 200 patients per weekday in surgeries and clinics. Those patients who demand immediate appointments for non-urgent problems, without booking, create delays for doctors, staff and patients who have made an appointment. All serious cases and patients with genuinely urgent problems will always be seen. If you are unable to wait for a routine appointment, please give the receptionist brief details of your condition/illness to help make the appropriate arrangements.
How Do I...
Make Telephone Contact?
We receive on average 200 telephone calls each day, 40% of which are made between 08:00 and 09:30. Our telephone lines are manned from 08:30 until 18:30. In order for the staff to answer your call quickly and avoid being held in a queue, please call after 11:00 where possible. If you wish to speak to a doctor or nurse on the telephone, please ask the receptionist to arrange a telephone consultation. It would be appreciated if you would give the receptionist the reason for your call to ensure that the appropriate arrangement is made.
You will need to give a telephone number where you can be contacted. For confidentiality reasons, we prefer not to telephone mobile phones unless unavoidable. Please ensure you are near the telephone and not using it when you are expecting the doctor or nurse to call.
How Do I...
Request House Calls?
These are at the discretion of the doctors and are meant for those who are genuinely too ill to come to the surgery. A doctor can see up to five patients in the surgery in the time it takes to do one visit. Requests should be made before 10:30. Please give details of your problem to the receptionist. A doctor may phone if he/she thinks that your problem does not need a visit and give appropriate advice. If an adult or child has a temperature, a cold, a cough, a rash or an earache, coming to the surgery will not do harm and will not endanger others, but please inform Reception. Home visits should not be requested for issue of repeat prescriptions or sick notes.
How Do I...
Obtain Test Results?
Please allow at least five working days from the date blood tests were carried out before checking for the results. X-rays and scans take longer – please allow 10-14 working days, unless you are otherwise instructed. The surgery will get in touch with you sooner if the result requires it. It would be helpful if you could contact us after 12 noon for results of tests when the receptionists are likely to be less busy.
How Do I...
Obtain A Sick Certificate?
Patients do not need a sick note from the doctor for the first seven days of any illness involving time off work. A self-certificate from your employer is all that is needed. As NHS certificates do not cover this period, patients who insist on a sick note may obtain a private sick note for which a charge is made. Patients do not need a sick note to return to work. Appointments are taken up unnecessarily by patients requesting sick notes. A letter informing your employer of the rules governing sick notes is available at Reception.
