Practice Achievements
Beacon Site
In May 1999 the practice was awarded NHS Beacon Site status by the Department of Health. NHS Beacon sites
are practices that have excelled in particular areas and have been awarded NHS Beacon status so that they may help other parts of the NHS to learn from best practice. Parchmore Medical Centre gained their NHS Beacon status in the area of Information Management and Technology.
This section of the Website has been designed for those interested in the work of the practice in the
area of Information Management and Technology.
IM&T - Implementation of appropriate integrated technologies to support clinical development in
General Practice
Parchmore Medical Centre has a track record of the innovative use of modern information management and
technology of benefit to patients and staff. All doctors and nurses are motivated to utilise practice IT
systems for 'live consultations' with data entry, acute and repeat prescribing, items of service claims, as
well as assessing clinical support systems. Achievements include successful pilot implementation of:-
- Electronic GP hospital laboratory link. Messaging is fully integrated with patient
records on the clinical system.
- GP practice NHSnet connection. Fully integrated, networked, 'consulting room desktop
solution' with email and internet access by clinicians.
- Implementation of Clinical Governance using Read coded templates and Disease
registers.
GP Net Demonstrator Site
The practice in conjunction with Croydon Primary Care Trust and the London Region of the NHS Executive
run regular regional workshops. These workshops demonstrate the benefits that can be obtained from a
practice IT system fully integrated to NHSnet with access enabled at every desktop throughout the
practice.
Primary Care Management Team Award Winners 1999
We won the National Award from Doctor magazine for "an integrated management strategy toward a modern
and dependable NHS GP Practice".
Judge's view:-
"This nomination recognised the importance of 'whole practice' involvement and the benefits that
could
and had in fact been derived from using this approach, for the benefits of patients and practice personnel
simultaneously. It approached national legislation and developments and harnessed them to achieve improved
services for patient in a particularly, difficult demographical population using technology in an
innovative and trailblazing way to pilot and prepare the way for the rest of Primary Care to
follow".
